Sea Base High Adventure 40 years of history 1980-2020
Florida Sea Base 1980: The Boy Scouts of America purchased the Tollgate Inn in 1979 and the Florida Gateway to High Adventure had a new home and a new name, The Florida National High Adventure Sea Base in 1980. As of 2019 we have six adventures offered at this location. In 2004 a Dive Master Academy (DMA) was added along with an Instructor Diver Certification (IDC) in 2013.
Big Munsun Island 1982: In December of 1982, (a gift from National Council of the Boy Scouts of America) allowed us to have a primitive 100 acres island to use for out Out Island Adventure.
Sea Base Bahamas 1990: Sam Wampler and Joe Maggio began offering sailing programs in Marsh Harbour, Abaco, Bahamas as an extension of Florida Sea Base in 1990. This location offers three sailing adventures.
Brinton Enviormental Center (BEC) 2001: Through growth and popularity of Florida Sea Base (FSB) and the Out Island Adventure on Big Munson Island, The BRinton Enviromental Center was built. The gates opened in the summer of 2001 with three adventures, along with the Out Island Adventure leaving from this location. The Marine STEM Adventure was added in 2017. Camp Sawyer, location on Scout Key in the Florida Keys. This location is Base Camp for the Order of the Arrow Adventure, their adventure continues at Dry Tortugas National Parks.
Sea Base St. Thomas US Virgin Island 2014: Sea Base St. Thomas began sailing operations in the summer of 2014 with two sailing adventures. crews board in St. Thomas where they sail and adventure on and around St. John.
Sea Base St. Croix US Virgin Island 2019: The summer of 2019, in partnership with the National Capital Area Council, Sea Base launched its newest location, located in Christansteel, St. Croix, Us Virgin Island at Camo Howard M. Wall. The base offers two adventures. Camp Howard M. Wall boats 17 acres of tent camping with beach frontage.
